About

Jeremy David Photography started as As Is Optics, a name derived from the three settings that shape every photograph: Aperture, Shutter speed and ISO. I always shoot in manual and share my work as the camera captured it. The only changes are some cropping and white balance adjustments to make the black and white versions. I feel heavy editing takes away from what I experienced when I took the shot, and from what you experience when you see it. I renamed the business to cover everything I shoot, but the approach hasn't changed.

I'm based in Longmont, Colorado, and I shoot the natural world and the structures built on it. I started with film in high school in the mid-1990s back in RI were I grew up. The digital format propelled my interest in photography. My first DSLR was a Nikon D40, which floated away when my kayak capsized on the Boulder Creek in Gunbarrel. I upgraded to a Nikon D300, and it's still the camera i use today.

For years this was a hobby. Friends and family were always kind about my photos, but thought they were just being encouraging. That mentality changed when I started selling greeting cards at art fairs. Strangers buying them complimented on the work and asked why I wasn't doing this full time. Some have said my black and whites remind them of Ansel Adams, which is a generous comparison and one I'm incredibly grateful for.
